The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Luiz Paulo Cardozo made a fantastic save in the 3rd minute, when Nando Gerber sent off a good shot on target. The long shot by Nando Gerber in the 4th minute really tested Luiz Paulo Cardozo's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Salinada AD's defense didn't have a chance, in the 6th minute, when Bebeto Pena scored to the left of an out of position Luiz Paulo Cardozo, making the score, 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chicão Eger in the 10th minute of play forced XV de Piracicaba's goalkeeper Fernando Quintal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luiz Paulo Cardozo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nando Gerber, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. Luiz Paulo Cardozo came out of the goal in the 16th minute to try and stop a shot by XV de Piracicaba's Laércio Cardozo. But to his dismay, Laércio Cardozo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. The referee felt a red card was in order, 20 minutes into the game, when Matías Rosa put in a rough tackle. After a rather tough play, Salinada AD's Tião Mendonça got a free kick in the 24th minute. A hard shot by Nando Gerber from long distance, 25 minutes into the match, got Luiz Paulo Cardozo's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Laércio Cardozo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Luiz Paulo Cardozo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Salinada AD's Tião Mendonça got a free kick in the 34th minute. In the 37th match minute, Salinada AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jorge Melo to maneuver through the defense. A hard shot by Anderson Netto from long distance, 38 minutes into the match, got Luiz Paulo Cardozo's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Laércio Cardozo got free with Luiz Paulo Cardozo in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Chicão Eger hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. Fernando Quintal didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Luiz Fernando da Silveira went, in the 43rd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Laércio Cardozo during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Laércio Cardozo hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

If Jorge Melo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 55 minutes into the match, XV de Piracicaba's goalkeeper Fernando Quintal had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Chicão Eger. Fernando Quintal made an important save on a dangerous shot by Chicão Eger in the 56th minute. João Augusto de Souza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Luiz Paulo Cardozo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fernando Quintal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luiz Fernando da Silveira in the 73rd minute of the match. Chicão Eger took the ball and in the 74 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fernando Quintal. Fernando Quintal dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-4. In the 76th minute, Vladimir Barbosa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 78th match minute, XV de Piracicaba was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ramiro Goiano to maneuver through the defense. 80 minutes into the match, Luiz Fernando da Silveira dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Fernando Quintal, 2-5. In the 85th minute, Luiz Fernando da Silveira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tião Mendonça kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. Vladimir Barbosa charged in rather forcefully in the 90th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vladimir Barbosa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Salinada AD getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Vladimir Barbosa hit a great ball. 90 minutes into the match, Salinada AD's goal looked a bit too open when Nando Gerber came free, but Luiz Paulo Cardozo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 93rd minute, Laércio Cardozo made a precise shot to the right of Luiz Paulo Cardozo. Salinada AD's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-5. The Salinada AD supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Salinada AD would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
