Elentínus Sigfastsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Osmar Senna having to interfere. 42 minutes into the game, Ramiro Paraibano was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Costa Rica Esporte Clube's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave União Flasco the free kick. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Osmar Senna was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
