The tension between the Beneficiente EC and the Irajai players grew even worse after the yellow card. Beneficiente EC's Geovani Moura played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João Paulo Marques in the 22nd minute of play. Geovani Moura made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Benjamin da Rocha in the 28th minute of play. After 31 played minutes Beneficiente EC got a freekick which was hit by Carlinhos dos Santos. Geovani Moura took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benjamin da Rocha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 33rd minute, Toninho Toledo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Irajai's supporters rose to their feet, but Toninho Toledo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Geovani Moura breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Benjamin da Rocha couldn't finish the play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Denílson Batista in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Washington Neto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The supporters of Irajai booed when Beneficiente EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Amauri Rezende didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 80th match minute, Beneficiente EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Clóvis Duarte to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 81st minute, João Paulo Marques managed to get in a good position for a shot. Irajai's supporters rose to their feet, but João Paulo Marques was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
