With a little luck, Santos's Durval Britto got control of the ball when Simão Dias tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 14 minutes of play, Santos's José Vítor Tande made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Samuel de Souza was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of Santos booed when Ibiatiara FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. But to his dismay, Simão Dias quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Mané Barreto's late challenge caught a Ibiatiara FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Mané Barreto helped the player get up and apologised. Mané Barreto hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. After 44 played minutes Santos got a freekick which was hit by Fellipe de Azevedo. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kaká Gomes in the 46th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Durval Britto saved Santos from getting behind. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Durval Britto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Simão Dias, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. After some careless play in the Santos defense, Kaká Gomes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Durval Britto. The Santos fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Durval Britto should have stopped the shot. When Fellipe de Azevedo fell near the penalty area in the 62nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Santos's protests and gave Fellipe de Azevedo a yellow card for diving instead. Fellipe de Azevedo kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match.
