Claudinei Urbano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Virgiliu Doroftei, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Grêmio FBPA's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hélio Botelho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Claudinei Urbano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hélio Botelho in the 38th minute of play. After 45 minutes of play, Grêmio FBPA's Virgiliu Doroftei made it 0-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Claudinei Urbano was left in no man's land by his defense there! After the first half Grêmio FBPA were leading 0-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Faustão Brodel to make the kick off. A throw-in in the 52nd minute of the game was made by Cristian de Carvalho with Dida Recife as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Faustão Brodel struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Claudinei Urbano was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but José Leme showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-6 in the 55 minute of play. After taking down the ball on Grêmio FBPA's corner Waldemar Loureiro fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Claudinei Urbano quite easily take care of the ball. 71 minutes into the game, Virgiliu Doroftei cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-7. Claudinei Urbano was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In a very dangerous position, a player in Succatha fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 73rd minute. Penalty! Claudinei Urbano had in the 74thth minute some difficulties stopping Virgiliu Doroftei's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 76th minute the ball was on its way in behind Succatha's goalkeeper Claudinei Urbano, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 77 minutes, Virgiliu Doroftei managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Virgiliu Doroftei could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 87th minute of the match, but Claudinei Urbano made a huge save. Virgiliu Doroftei had several of the Succatha's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 91 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 0-9 score and a disappointed Claudinei Urbano as he didn't even see the shot coming. The Succatha fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Grêmio FBPA were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
