When Ronaldão Pinho fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Acarai's protests and gave Ronaldão Pinho a yellow card for diving instead. Ronaldão Pinho hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. After 20 minutes of play, EC Caucaia's Vânderson Borges made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Juan Pirani was left in no man's land by his defense there! Claudinho Abreu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Vianna in the 25th minute of play. After having played for 29 minutes, Diego Quadros managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. EC Caucaia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Diego Quadros was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 31st minute, Alberto Vianna hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 38th minute the ball was on its way in behind EC Caucaia's goalkeeper Claudinho Abreu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to Acarai getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Ademar Severo hit a great ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Vânderson Borges made the kick off in the second half. Juan Pirani stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Vânderson Borges's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Telmo Sanches during the 55th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. EC Caucaia's supporters rose to their feet, but Vânderson Borges was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Juan Pirani breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gugu Cordeiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. EC Caucaia's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
