After a defensive mix-up in Brunogenio's zone, Glauco Carneiro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Abelardo Dionísio came out of the goal and Glauco Carneiro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 4 played minutes EC São José got a freekick which was hit by Jeronimo Sagrario. EC São José's Mike Maignan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristiano Rosado in the 13th minute of play. After 14 minutes EC São José's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Váldson Ramalho who took care of the corner kick. Waldemar Baptista tried in the 14th minute to hit away a contribution but miss-kicked the ball which ended up in his own goal and left an unhappy Mike Maignan a with quite unnecessary self made goal. Result 1-0. Mike Maignan made a fantastic save in the 17th minute, when Matías Catarinense sent off a good shot on target. 21 minutes into the game, Alexandre Souto cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Abelardo Dionísio was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Matías Catarinense could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Mike Maignan made a huge save. Matías Catarinenses short, quick shot in the 29thth minute got Mike Maignan to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Mike Maignan made a fantastic save in the 32nd minute, when Matías Catarinense sent off a good shot on target. 32 minutes into the game, Matías Catarinense recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Mike Maignan. Matías Catarinense showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-1. Abelardo Dionísio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alexandre Souto in the 36th minute of the match. Matías Catarinense in the 39thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Mike Maignan, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Sandro Moraes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mike Maignan having to interfere. After a rather tough play, EC São José's Jeronimo Sagrario got a free kick in the 46th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The wind increased when Matías Catarinense made the kick off in the second half. When Brunogenio's Cristiano Rosado in the 52nd minute got a chance for a shot 52nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye EC São José's goalie prevented a goal. After a defensive mix-up in EC São José's zone, Matías Catarinense stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. With an all-out effort, EC São José's Abelardo Dionísio threw himself towards the right post 57 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Glauco Carneiro, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sandro Moraes in the 58th minute of play forced EC São José's goalkeeper Mike Maignan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Brunogenio's Matías Catarinense, in the 61st minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Brunogenio. After a rather tough play, EC São José's Waldemar Baptista got a free kick in the 64th minute. Váldson Ramalho, 65 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. In the 67th match minute, Brunogenio was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matías Gonçalves to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cristiano Rosado in the 70th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mike Maignan saved EC São José from getting behind. Alexandre Souto who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 72ndth minute tested the skills of Abelardo Dionísio when he managed to save the team from getting behind. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Matías Catarinense in the 74th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mike Maignan saved EC São José from getting behind. After 75 played minutes EC São José got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Fernando Goiano. 79 minutes into the match, Brunogenio's goal looked a bit too open when Glauco Carneiro came free, but Abelardo Dionísio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Abelardo Dionísio made a fantastic save in the 82nd minute, when Alexandre Souto sent off a good shot on target. In the 85thth minute of the game Matías Catarinense who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but EC São José's Mike Maignan was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Mike Maignan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristiano Rosado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 91st minute, Cristiano Rosado got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. EC São José's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
