Rafael Dantas charged in rather forcefully in the 19th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rafael Dantas the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 19th match minute, Goiânia FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rafael Dantas to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Goiânia FC's zone, Roberto Romário stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 7-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rafael Dantas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jorge Campos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edmond Boureau in the 52nd minute of play. The audience was convinced that Roberto Romário's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jorge Campos was relentless in the 53rd minute of the game. Dé Recife sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 55th minute Aírton Cearense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jorge Campos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
