Lazio's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Reynaldo Jacinto was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. The audience thought a goal was coming when Yao Yi Chao got free with Reynaldo Cardozo in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 17th minute, Reynaldo Jacinto left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Fenix Futebol Clube fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. Reynaldo Cardozo was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Felippe Varela showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-3 in the 21 minute of play. 25 minutes into the game, Mário Schmidt was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player.
