Hélio Neiva showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Maria Pena, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. Alberto Meirelles charged in rather forcefully in the 17th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Akis Bouzios in the 35th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hélio Neiva prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 38 minutes into the game, A.D. Imperial's Akis Bouzios nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hélio Neiva made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. A collision led to A.D. Imperial getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Alexander Smith hit a great ball. 46 minutes into the match, Libertadores's goal looked a bit too open when José Maria Pena came free, but Hélio Neiva reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. José Maria Pena was the one to do the kick off. The crowd rose to their feet as Akis Bouzios kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Hélio Neiva. That made the score 0-5 in the 54 minute of play. Libertadores's defense didn't have a chance, in the 60th minute, when Akis Bouzios scored to the left of an out of position Hélio Neiva, making the score, 0-6. 65 minutes into the match, Libertadores's goalkeeper Hélio Neiva had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Akis Bouzios. The A.D. Imperial fans' excitement grew in the 67th match minute when A.D. Imperial's Dadá Maravilha looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-7 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 74th play minute Dadá Maravilha came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Hélio Neiva. 0-8. Dadá Maravilha who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 77thth minute tested the skills of Hélio Neiva when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Valeri Zabelin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo Recife in the 79th minute of play. 81 minutes into the game, A.D. Imperial's Dadá Maravilha nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Hélio Neiva made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-9. Hélio Neiva was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 86th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Clemente Massa. After 94 played minutes A.D. Imperial got a freekick which was hit by Durvalino Trevisan. A.D. Imperial's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
