Júlio Porto came out of the goal in the 23rd minute to try and stop a shot by Libertadores's Ricardinho Matos. But to his dismay, Ricardinho Matos quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. If Sílvio Cruz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 34th minute, Luís de Mendonça hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cristian Pernambucano kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Ricardinho Matos managed to get in a good position for a shot. Libertadores's supporters rose to their feet, but Ricardinho Matos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
