When the match had gone on for 5 minutes, Arlindo Godoi put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Christian Barreto. Pombal FC's Rodrigo Guerra proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Pombal FC from getting a goal against them. When Pombal FC's José Augusto Pontes in the 16th minute got a chance for a shot 16th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye CRUZEIRO S.A's goalie prevented a goal. Claudinho Terra hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Christian Barreto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from José Augusto Pontes in the 22nd minute of the match. Christian Barreto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arlindo Godoi, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. Arlindo Godoi took the ball and in the 28 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Christian Barreto. Christian Barreto dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. José Augusto Pontes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Christian Barreto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rodrigo Guerra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Toninho Salles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. CRUZEIRO S.A's Christian Barreto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Augusto Pontes in the 35th minute of play. Rodrigo Guerra made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Toninho Salles in the 39th minute of play. When Pombal FC's Arlindo Godoi in the 41st minute got a chance for a shot 41st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye CRUZEIRO S.A's goalie prevented a goal. Christian Barreto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arlindo Godoi in the 42nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Augusto Pontes in the 45th minute of play forced CRUZEIRO S.A's goalkeeper Christian Barreto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 47 minutes into the game, Pombal FC's José Augusto Pontes nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Christian Barreto made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. José Augusto Pontes was the one to do the kick off. The referee felt a red card was in order, 53 minutes into the game, when Vágner Jacinto put in a rough tackle. Rodrigo Guerra came out of the goal in the 55th minute to try and stop a shot by CRUZEIRO S.A's Carlinhos de Mendonça. But to his dismay, Carlinhos de Mendonça quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. 61 minutes had been played when some careless play by CRUZEIRO S.A's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Celsinho Mazza was slow to take the kick. During this time Pombal FC's players had a chance to rest. Arlindo Godoi struck a weak shot in the 64th minute. Christian Barreto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Pombal FC. Arlindo Godoi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Christian Barreto having to interfere. 73 minutes into the match, CRUZEIRO S.A's goalkeeper Christian Barreto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Arlindo Godoi. After 75 played minutes CRUZEIRO S.A got a freekick which was hit by Toninho Salles. A hard shot 92 in the game by Arlindo Godoi from a close distance when the talented Christian Barreto managed to make a qualified save. CRUZEIRO S.A's players were relieved. After a rather tough play, CRUZEIRO S.A's Claudinho Terra got a free kick in the 93rd minute. If Arlindo Godoi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Pombal FC's Rodrigo Guerra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Waldemar Dionísio in the 100th minute of play. The CRUZEIRO S.A fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Pombal FC were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
