But to his dismay, Percy Bertassi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Mário Araújo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Guub United getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Dedé da Mata hit a great ball. Guub United's Levente Majer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Percy Bertassi in the 21st minute of play. When Mário Araújo came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Guub United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mário Araújo couldn't finish the play. Clóvis Pinheiro hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Waldemar Lara managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bahia's supporters rose to their feet, but Waldemar Lara was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Levente Majer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 41st minute, Francisco Breckenfeld got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Percy Bertassi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Levente Majer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ediberto Madureira hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. Mário Araújo had several of the Bahia's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 48 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-3 score and a disappointed Carlos Augusto Rodrigues as he didn't even see the shot coming. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Mário Araújo to strike the kick off in the second half. Carlos Augusto Rodrigues made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wágner Zonta in the 54th minute of play. Guub United's attentive Francisco Breckenfeld managed to snatch the ball when Valdemar Penha made a throw-in in the 57th minute of the game. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mário Araújo in the 58th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Carlos Augusto Rodrigues prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Percy Bertassi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 64th minute Waldemar Lara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Levente Majer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 66th minute, Waldemar Lara fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Levente Majer, passed just outside the right post. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mário Araújo in the 73rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carlos Augusto Rodrigues saved Bahia from getting behind. In the 81st match minute, Guub United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ediberto Madureira to maneuver through the defense. Bahia's Teo Restu was substituted for Claus Vandewalle. Francisco Breckenfeld sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Percy Bertassi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When the match clock showed 90 minutes, the score became 2-3 when Mário Araújo sped through Bahia's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Carlos Augusto Rodrigues. The supporters of Guub United booed when Bahia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Teo Restu didn't get a good kick on the ball. 94 minutes into the match, Guub United's Wágner Zonta sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Carlos Augusto Rodrigues narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpected shot in the 97th minute by Percy Bertassi got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side.
