Grêmio FBPA's Pipis Karapatakis was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Biagio Furino in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Aílton Linares's late challenge caught a Grêmio FBPA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Aílton Linares helped the player get up and apologised. In the 36th match minute, Paraná Clube Brasil was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aílton Linares to maneuver through the defense. Biagio Furino showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pipis Karapatakis, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Osvaldo Coutinho lost his temper 41 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. But to his dismay, Ted Hoogenkamp quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. If Diamantino Cabral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Grêmio FBPA were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Arlindo Silveira to make the kick off. Pipis Karapatakis's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Biagio Furino read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 64th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Ted Hoogenkamp's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Biagio Furino was relentless in the 67th minute of the game. Pipis Karapatakis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Biagio Furino tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Paraná Clube Brasil's Biagio Furino proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 73rd minute of the match, managed to save Paraná Clube Brasil from getting a goal against them. The Paraná Clube Brasil fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Grêmio FBPA were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
