A sloppy throw-in by José Pedro Salgado in the 26th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by FC Schalke 04's Basílio Rosado. In the 28th minute, Agostinho Velasco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 31st minute, Sérgio Vianna ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lúcio Simões was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. A collision led to Desemboque getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Sérgio Vianna hit a great ball. Lúcio Simões showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Carlos Romero in the 42nd minute of the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

A nice corner shot did that Hélio Vargas got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Lúcio Simões quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When the match had gone on for 76 minutes, Hélio Vargas put it in 1-3 from a short distance just to the right of Lúcio Simões. Sérgio Vianna could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 79th minute of the match, but Lúcio Simões made a huge save. Lúcio Simões made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Carlos Romero in the 84th minute of play. Delfim Dionísio made in the 87th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Oséas Zanette immediately put the ball in play. Lúcio Simões took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Oséas Zanette, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the final whistle sounded Desemboque left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than FC Schalke 04.
