Iwan Wojtyna showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fe De, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. After a defensive mix-up in RED-STAR's zone, Hans Arp stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Iwan Wojtyna came out of the goal and Hans Arp tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Lúcio Simões made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cacá Braga in the 71st minute of play. 74 minutes into the match, FC Schalke 04's goalkeeper Lúcio Simões had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Silas Almeida. In the 75th minute, RED-STAR's Cacá Braga dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-3. RED-STAR's Igor Firme got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 82 minutes into the match, FC Schalke 04's goal looked a bit too open when Dagoberto Linhares came free, but Lúcio Simões reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dagoberto Linhares who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 84thth minute tested the skills of Lúcio Simões when he managed to save the team from getting behind. FC Schalke 04 were furious when Edson Fonseca was red carded, 96 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The FC Schalke 04 supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching RED-STAR's performance. The match ended with a win for RED-STAR.
