Rony Zanette had in the 19thth minute some difficulties stopping Buba Seco's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 20 minutes into the match, Xiboquinha FC's goal looked a bit too open when Buba Seco came free, but Rony Zanette reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tage Backlund hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. When Buba Seco fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored São Paulo F.C.'s protests and gave Buba Seco a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, São Paulo F.C.'s Eugênio Gonçalves got a free kick in the 47th minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tage Backlund stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute César Moraes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tiago Godoi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Yaya Sow got free with Rony Zanette in the 66th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Wanderson Melo received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal.
