When the match had been going on for 15 minutes, Sete de setembro's Eron Alfaro got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Tiago Godoi. 20 minutes into the match, Sete de setembro's goal looked a bit too open when Edmílson Lago came free, but Zé Gerber reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 20th match minute, São Paulo F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Romildo Pratti to maneuver through the defense. The attack was good, but when Charles Sá in the 28th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. In the 32nd minute Buba Seco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zé Gerber saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 33 minutes, Vito Travassos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. São Paulo F.C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Vito Travassos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 36 minutes into the match, Joélson Neiva notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of São Paulo F.C.'s Tiago Godoi. The supporters of Sete de setembro booed when São Paulo F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Buba Seco didn't get a good kick on the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Vito Travassos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Sete de setembro's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave São Paulo F.C. the free kick. When Cesinha Ceresso fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sete de setembro's protests and gave Cesinha Ceresso a yellow card for diving instead. After 86 played minutes Sete de setembro got a freekick which was hit by Cesinha Ceresso. 87 minutes into the game, Vito Travassos recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Zé Gerber. Vito Travassos showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-3. Romildo Pratti was extremely unlucky when he, in the 92nd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when São Paulo F.C.'s Romildo Pratti in the 92nd minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Zé Gerber was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for Sete de setembro through an amazing save. The São Paulo F.C. players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
