In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Avanti PALESTRA's goalkeeper Flávio Meira, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Avanti PALESTRA's Flávio Meira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Erivaldo Moreno in the 18th minute of play. When Nilton Fontes came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Matadores FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nilton Fontes couldn't finish the play. In the 44th minute Ismael Cosme shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aloísio Abreu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Matadores FC were leading 0-6. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Erivaldo Moreno ran back to his position shaking his head. If Nilton Fontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the Avanti PALESTRA defense, Válbson Sarmento kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Flávio Meira. The Avanti PALESTRA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Flávio Meira should have stopped the shot. Matadores FC's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
