After 14 played minutes G A I A got a freekick which was hit by Ian Amaral. In the 25th minute Hugo Lopez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mané Barreto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ian Amaral in the 26th minute of play forced E. C. Flamengo Paraibano's goalkeeper Mané Barreto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 31 minutes of play, G A I A's Gilmar Cruz made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mané Barreto was left in no man's land by his defense there! 35 minutes into the match, E. C. Flamengo Paraibano's goal looked a bit too open when Hugo Lopez came free, but Mané Barreto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dieguinho Nunes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Albin Anundsson in the 40th minute of the match. In the 44th match minute, E. C. Flamengo Paraibano was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vivaldo Cunha to maneuver through the defense. After the first half G A I A were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Thomás Loureiro to make the kick off. After 51 minutes, Ian Amaral mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the G A I A and the E. C. Flamengo Paraibano players grew even worse after the yellow card. Mané Barreto came out of the goal and Basílio Ferraz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Gilmar Cruz fell near the penalty area in the 78th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored G A I A's protests and gave Gilmar Cruz a yellow card for diving instead. In the 78th match minute, G A I A was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gilmar Cruz to maneuver through the defense. E. C. Flamengo Paraibano's Vivaldo Cunha got his second yellow card of the match in the 88th minute. The referee ordered Vivaldo Cunha off the ground. After 89 played minutes E. C.
