In the 6th minute, Murilo Lucas ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ediberto Rossi was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. 9 minutes into the match, Antônio Carlos Bueno had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ediberto Rossi. Palmeira's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Antônio Carlos Bueno was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. 11 minutes into the match, Palmeira's goal looked a bit too open when Antônio Carlos Bueno came free, but Ediberto Rossi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 13 minutes into the game, Arlindo Messias recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Arlindo Guedes. Arlindo Messias showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-2. After 15 minutes, Antônio Carlos Bueno made it 1-3 with a short kick to the right side. Palmeira's Ediberto Rossi tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Antônio Carlos Bueno in the 22nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ediberto Rossi saved Palmeira from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in AF CERRADO's zone, Mário Saldanha stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Arlindo Guedes came out of the goal and Mário Saldanha tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Arlindo Guedes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mário Saldanha in the 28th minute of the match. 33 minutes into the match, Adhemar Sá notched a goal, 2-3, to the right of AF CERRADO's Arlindo Guedes. Arlindo Guedes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Arlindo Guedes made a fantastic save in the 36th minute, when Adhemar Sá sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to AF CERRADO getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Marcos Paulista hit a great ball. The nice shot from Adhemar Sá in the 42ndth minute just in front of the goal should have ended in point on the board, but Arlindo Guedes had a great feel for the game and superbly saved the ball from getting in by the left post. Arlindo Guedes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arlindo Messias, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 2-3 lead.

Arlindo Guedes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mário Saldanha in the 51st minute of the match. If Toninho Moreira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 55 minutes, Adhemar Sá managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Palmeira's supporters crossed their fingers, but Adhemar Sá was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 59 minutes into the game, AF CERRADO's Antônio Carlos Bueno nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ediberto Rossi made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-4. After 63 played minutes AF CERRADO got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Lopez. João Pedro Valladares blasted a shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Arlindo Guedes having to make a save. After having played for 72 minutes, Antônio Carlos Bueno managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. AF CERRADO's supporters crossed their fingers, but Antônio Carlos Bueno was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. AF CERRADO's Dennis Contaldi was substituted for Róbson Bittencourt. Felix Smits was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 75 minutes into the match. 75 minutes into the game, one of AF CERRADO:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 77th minute there was a penalty for Palmeira. João Pedro Valladares stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Arlindo Guedes. 3-4. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 79th minute of the game. One of Palmeira:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of AF CERRADO:s goal. The goalkeeper, Ediberto Rossi, was totally fooled by AF CERRADO's Jaime Pombal, who 81 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. After 88 played minutes Palmeira got a freekick which was hit by Alain Aznar. In the 91st minute Dennis Contaldi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ediberto Rossi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arlindo Guedes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mário Saldanha, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. Thiago Damião was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 94th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched AF CERRADO eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
