Frederico Negri recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 2nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Anselmo Moraes in the 4th play minute got the chance to kick a hard shot on goal from short distance neither the defense or Ediberto Rossi kept up with the ball and suddenly the score was 1-0 when the ball slipped into goal inside the left pole. After some fancy dribbling in the 7th minute, Mário Saldanha managed to get in a good position for a shot. Palmeira's supporters rose to their feet, but Mário Saldanha was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Henrique Prata breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Mário Saldanha's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Henrique Prata was relentless in the 9th minute of the game. Tomas Havier received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Henrique Prata showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adhemar Sá in the 15th minute of the match. 17 minutes into the match, Sport Club do Recife's goal looked a bit too open when Mário Saldanha came free, but Henrique Prata reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 29 played minutes Sport Club do Recife got a freekick which was hit by Victor Mandrak. Leo Carbol, 29 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Henrique Prata made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marquinhos Gaspar in the 31st minute of play. When the match clock showed 34 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Arlindo Messias sped through Sport Club do Recife's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Henrique Prata. Frederico Negri took the ball and in the 37 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Henrique Prata. Henrique Prata dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. Palmeira's Hudson Mattos was substituted for Adhemar Sá. Leo Carbol took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 44th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Henrique Prata. Sport Club do Recife's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mário Saldanha was the one to do the kick off. Hudson Mattos's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 51stth minute, Henrique Prata skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 54th minute, Jaime Rojelio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Palmeira's Leo Carbol couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 54th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Sport Club do Recife. Anselmo Moraes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ediberto Rossi having to interfere. In the 59th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sport Club do Recife's goalkeeper Henrique Prata, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Henrique Prata made an important save on a dangerous shot by Arlindo Messias in the 67th minute. Sport Club do Recife's Henrique Prata played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mário Saldanha in the 71st minute of play. Palmeira's Frederico Negri managed to work through Sport Club do Recife's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Frederico Negri dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. Palmeira's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Leo Carbol in the 75th minute. Arlindo Messias received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Henrique Prata tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Marquinhos Gaspar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mário Saldanha in the 92nd minute of play forced Sport Club do Recife's goalkeeper Henrique Prata to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Henrique Prata took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marquinhos Gaspar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Palmeira's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
