AA GUARULHOS's Owen Ramsden quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. 8 minutes into the match, Remigio Finlay notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of PEÇONHENTO FC MG's Barra Gol. Barra Gol was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Lance Cabezas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. PEÇONHENTO FC MG's Barra Gol played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Remigio Finlay in the 15th minute of play. A sloppy throw-in by Cafu de Andrade in the 16th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by AA GUARULHOS's Owen Ramsden. Carlos Alberto Tinoco made a fantastic save in the 19th minute, when Peter Paul Crouch sent off a good shot on target. AA GUARULHOS's Lance Cabezas got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Carlos Alberto Tinoco made an important save on a dangerous shot by Peter Paul Crouch in the 22nd minute. If Remigio Finlay had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 26th minute Remigio Finlay shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Barra Gol saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Owen Ramsden made in the 28th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by PEÇONHENTO FC MG's Tony Tavares. With his leg Carlos Alberto Tinoco managed to avoid a goal in the 29thth minute, when PEÇONHENTO FC MG's Peter Paul Crouch fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 33 minutes into the match, PEÇONHENTO FC MG's goal looked a bit too open when Remigio Finlay came free, but Barra Gol reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in AA GUARULHOS's zone, Peter Paul Crouch stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Carlos Alberto Tinoco came out of the goal and Peter Paul Crouch tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The PEÇONHENTO FC MG players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. AA GUARULHOS were winning 0-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Remigio Finlay made a kick off. Remigio Finlay blasted a shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Barra Gol having to make a save. After 57 played minutes AA GUARULHOS got a freekick which was hit by Nilton Ramalho. The throw-in from Cafu de Andrade in the 59th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by AA GUARULHOS's Jacobo Porfirio. When Eliseu Ribeiro fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored PEÇONHENTO FC MG's protests and gave Eliseu Ribeiro a yellow card for diving instead. Barra Gol took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Remigio Finlay, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Remigio Finlay's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Barra Gol was relentless in the 63rd minute of the game. Lance Cabezas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 65th minute of the match, but Barra Gol made a huge save. AA GUARULHOS's Carlos Alberto Tinoco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Peter Paul Crouch in the 69th minute of play. In the 71st match minute, AA GUARULHOS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eugenio Ingegno to maneuver through the defense. PEÇONHENTO FC MG's Tarcisio Luz was substituted for Emanuel Vigil. AA GUARULHOS's Carlos Alberto Tinoco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Peter Paul Crouch in the 78th minute of play. AA GUARULHOS's Owen Ramsden quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Eliseu Ribeiro, made in the 84th minute of the game. With a little luck, PEÇONHENTO FC MG's Barra Gol got control of the ball when Lance Cabezas tried to sneak it across the goal line. With 94 minutes on the clock, José Augusto Viana commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. After 93 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for AA GUARULHOS! Carlos Alberto Tinoco had in the 95thth minute some difficulties stopping Peter Paul Crouch's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Peter Paul Crouch scored 1-1 in the 96th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Carlos Alberto Tinoco, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
