In the 24th minute of the match, Baturhan Oytun got a very nice opportunity to score, but Bruno Renan was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Thierry Henry blasted a shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Serginho Nogueira having to make a save. Marcinho Mineiro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Serginho Nogueira read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 27th minute of play. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Baturhan Oytun to make the kick off.
