The audience thought a goal was coming when Salvador Tolino got free with Silvio Emesto in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in ASOC. ATL. RIOPLATENSE's zone, Isidoro Franco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Silvio Emesto came out of the goal and Isidoro Franco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Boca Juniors were furious when Nildo Paranaense was red carded, 23 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. After 22 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Boca Juniors! After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Salvador Tolino managed to get in a good position for a shot. Boca Juniors's supporters rose to their feet, but Salvador Tolino was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Silvio Emesto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jacinto Celipe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Silvio Emesto having to interfere. When Teodosio Ruisko came up free with the goalie in the 33rd minute, the Boca Juniors fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Teodosio Ruisko couldn't finish the play. ASOC. ATL. RIOPLATENSE's Silvio Emesto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jacinto Celipe in the 36th minute of play. Hernan Sidro took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 39th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Silvio Emesto. ASOC. ATL. RIOPLATENSE's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The supporters of Boca Juniors booed when ASOC. ATL. RIOPLATENSE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Domingo Leguizamón didn't get a good kick on the ball. Teodosio Ruisko struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Silvio Emesto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Boca Juniors. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Teodosio Ruisko to make the kick off. Silvio Emesto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Teodosio Ruisko in the 53rd minute of play. Salvador Tolino ran back to his position shaking his head. Teodosio Ruisko sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Jacinto Celipe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Teodosio Ruisko recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Alberto Hechter did an outstanding performance 91 minutes into the match, when he by himself got past the opposing team's defense and with a quick scored 2-0 to the right of an irritated Silvio Emesto in the goal. 95 minutes into the match, Boca Juniors's Hernan Sidro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Silvio Emesto narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Teodosio Ruisko had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
