The audience thought a goal was coming when Delmar Medardo got free with Mark Mattsson in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a little luck, Garré AFC's Mark Mattsson got control of the ball when Delmar Medardo tried to sneak it across the goal line. 21 minutes into the match, Garré AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Bruno Gonzalez came free, but Mark Mattsson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. German Toro hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. Mark Mattsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bruno Gonzalez in the 25th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Newells Old Boys's zone, Cosme Gimenez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alberto Sendoa came out of the goal and Cosme Gimenez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Felix Gelmiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alberto Sendoa having to interfere. Newells Old Boys's Bruno Gonzalez suffered a sore thigh after 32 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jonathan Goizeder during the 32nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Newells Old Boys's Lorenzo Balendin was substituted for Bruno Gonzalez. Jonathan Goizeder kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. Mark Mattsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lorenzo Balendin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lorenzo Balendin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Mark Mattsson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hélio Massa was the one to do the kick off. But to his dismay, Delmar Medardo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. In the 60th match minute, Newells Old Boys was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Roberto Etxatxu to maneuver through the defense. Hélio Massa scored 3-0 in the 62nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Mark Mattsson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hélio Massa in the 71st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mark Mattsson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After some fancy dribbling in the 73rd minute, Delmar Medardo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Newells Old Boys's supporters rose to their feet, but Delmar Medardo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mark Mattsson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Mark Mattsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hélio Massa in the 78th minute of play. When Delmar Medardo fell near the penalty area in the 82nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Newells Old Boys's protests and gave Delmar Medardo a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Newells Old Boys getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Delmar Medardo hit a great ball. Mark Mattsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hélio Massa in the 89th minute of play. 93 minutes into the match, Hélio Massa notched a goal, 4-0, to the right of Garré AFC's Mark Mattsson. Mark Mattsson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Newells Old Boys's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
