One of Newells old boys:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Goyena:s goal. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Elvio Weather to make the kick off. Arturo Frantzes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Elvio Weather in the 52nd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Newells old boys's zone, Clodoveo Bermudez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Peter Sander came out of the goal and Clodoveo Bermudez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Newells old boys getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Fabricio Burni hit a great ball. Peter Sander came out of the goal in the 60th minute to try and stop a shot by Goyena's Clodoveo Bermudez. But to his dismay, Clodoveo Bermudez quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Peter Sander showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Clodoveo Bermudez, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. When Clodoveo Bermudez came up free with the goalie in the 71st minute, the Goyena fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Clodoveo Bermudez couldn't finish the play. Ariel Leoncio kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. Newells old boys's Peter Sander played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Clodoveo Bermudez in the 78th minute of play. In the 79th minute, Erubiel Piearres had to leave the field with a concussion. Americo Richie charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down.
