Jeronimo Benvide sent away a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Poblet's Andres Socorro got a free kick in the 7th minute. In the 10th minute the ball was on its way in behind Poblet's goalkeeper Melquiades Maxin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Newells old boys were awarded a corner in the 11th minute after Poblet's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Maximiliano Gelmiro took the corner. After taking down the ball on Newells old boys's corner Maximiliano Gelmiro fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Melquiades Maxin quite easily take care of the ball. 18 minutes into the match, Poblet's goal looked a bit too open when Flavio Urko came free, but Melquiades Maxin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 21 minutes into the match, Poblet's goal looked a bit too open when Flavio Urko came free, but Melquiades Maxin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Melquiades Maxin came out of the goal in the 36th minute to try and stop a shot by Newells old boys's Jeronimo Benvide. But to his dismay, Jeronimo Benvide quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. 43 minutes into the match, Flavio Urko dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Melquiades Maxin, 2-0. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Flavio Urko to make the kick off. Leonides Ciceron made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jaime Asier in the 52nd minute. In the 63rd minute Flavio Urko shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Melquiades Maxin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Siro Marquez's late challenge caught a Newells old boys's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Siro Marquez helped the player get up and apologised. After 69 played minutes Poblet got a freekick which was hit by Siro Marquez. Jeronimo Benvide recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Siro Marquez was shown his second yellow card after 71 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. If Jeronimo Benvide had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Poblet getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Jaime Asier hit a great ball. Jaime Asier received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Leonides Ciceron tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jeronimo Benvide struck a weak shot in the 87th minute. Melquiades Maxin didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newells old boys. Melquiades Maxin didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jeronimo Benvide went, in the 89th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. Newells old boys's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
