The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 12 minutes into the game, Eloy Osoro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Wheelwright's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Matheu the free kick. Eloy Osoro kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. After 16 played minutes Wheelwright got a freekick which was hit by Eloy Osoro. Pastor Faron might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ladislao Hanni. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Pastor Faron ran back to his position shaking his head. Matheu's Eduardo Edorta got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ladislao Hanni took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adrian Isauro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Adrian Isauro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ladislao Hanni having to interfere. In the 33rd minute, one of Matheu:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Matheu. When the match had been going on for 35 minutes, Wheelwright's Felipe Liher got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Ladislao Hanni. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Furman in the 39th minute of play forced Wheelwright's goalkeeper Isaias Lauren to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Matheu booed when Wheelwright was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Clemente Vargas didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ladislao Hanni took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Clemente Vargas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Pascual Bixintxo was the one to do the kick off. Adrian Isauro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ladislao Hanni read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 60th minute of play. Matheu's Ladislao Hanni played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adrian Isauro in the 67th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Wheelwright's Prospero Abajas got a free kick in the 75th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gică Gurlui during the 82nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Pastor Faron fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ladislao Hanni having to interfere. Ladislao Hanni made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pastor Faron in the 96th minute of play.
