The tension between the Chievo Verona F.C and the Newell´s Old Boys players grew even worse after the yellow card. Clodoveo James didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newell´s Old Boys. In the 44thth minute of the game Abelardo Dimo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Chievo Verona F.C's Clodoveo James was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Cirilo Birila sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Roberto Lertxun's late challenge caught a Chievo Verona F.C's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. With a little luck, Chievo Verona F.C's Clodoveo James got control of the ball when Joaquin Jax tried to sneak it across the goal line. Despite being the better team, Newell´s Old Boys failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
