Waldir Peres stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Frank Sachs's shot from short distance in the 4th minute. 7 minutes into the game, Germany's Frank Sachs nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Waldir Peres took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Frank Sachs, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Fabian in the 25th minute of play forced Germany's goalkeeper Tommy Kahn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 31 minutes into the game, Luís Fabian recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Tommy Kahn. Luís Fabian showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. In the 37th minute Frank Sachs shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Waldir Peres saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 39 played minutes Planet Caravan got a freekick which was hit by Eriberto Montenegro. After a rather tough play, Germany's Albin Holweck got a free kick in the 40th minute. Tommy Kahn made a fantastic save in the 41st minute, when Gilvan Quirino sent off a good shot on target. In the 44th minute, Malte Schiele hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Planet Caravan's Ademir de Amorim shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 45th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Tommy Kahn but with some difficulty. Tommy Kahn made a fantastic save in the 47th minute, when Luís Fabian sent off a good shot on target. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

Germany's supporters crossed their fingers, but Albin Holweck was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tommy Kahn was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 79th match minute, Planet Caravan was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Adriano do Nascimento to maneuver through the defense.
