When Cristian Soin fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored C. A. River Plate's protests and gave Cristian Soin a yellow card for diving instead. In the 24th match minute, C. A. River Plate was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cristian Soin to maneuver through the defense. CA River Plate's Adriana Nuxila played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Raul Honrio in the 26th minute of play. 27 minutes into the game, Raul Honrio cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Adriana Nuxila was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Adriana Nuxila made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Raul Honrio in the 32nd minute of play. In the 35th minute Ruben Gamus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sebastian Calixto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Patricio Jacindo got a throw-in 42 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Miguel Birila. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Raul Honrio to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Nicanor Guzman managed to get in a good position for a shot. CA River Plate's supporters rose to their feet, but Nicanor Guzman was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sebastian Calixto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 53 minutes, Amadeo Madaleno managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CA River Plate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Amadeo Madaleno was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Nicanor Guzman blasted a shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Sebastian Calixto having to make a save. CA River Plate's Nicanor Guzman got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nicanor Guzman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Sebastian Calixto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sebastian Calixto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicanor Guzman in the 79th minute of play. CA River Plate's Nicanor Guzman managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Patricio Jacindo in the 81 minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in C. A. River Plate's zone, Nicanor Guzman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sebastian Calixto came out of the goal and Nicanor Guzman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. CA River Plate's Humberto Fernandes got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nicanor Guzman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 89 minutes, Ruben Gamus managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CA River Plate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ruben Gamus was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Nicanor Guzman's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sebastian Calixto read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 94th minute of play. Nereo Arnau charged in rather forcefully in the 96th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nereo Arnau the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see CA River Plate lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
