The referee ignored Casavindo AFC's protests and gave Apolo Harkaitz a yellow card for diving instead. In the 19th match minute, Casavindo AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Apolo Harkaitz to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Casavindo AFC getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Danilo Benvido hit a great ball. Flavio Gutierrez made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Anísio Maranhense sent off a good shot on target. After some careless play in the Quebrachito FC defense, Aurelio Montel kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joélson dos Santos. The Quebrachito FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joélson dos Santos should have stopped the shot. Quebrachito FC's Anísio Maranhense got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 36th minute Gaston Eate shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Flavio Gutierrez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Joélson dos Santos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Augusto Jaizki, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 42 played minutes Casavindo AFC got a freekick which was hit by Luciano Confesor. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Aurelio Montel to make the kick off.
