GIMNASIA Y TIRO's Leon Pello played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Saverio Llorienzo in the 10th minute of play. After 14 played minutes Velez Sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Saverio Llorienzo. After some careless play in the GIMNASIA Y TIRO defense, Saverio Llorienzo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Leon Pello. The GIMNASIA Y TIRO fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Leon Pello should have stopped the shot. Saverio Llorienzo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Apolo Eufrasio hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. GIMNASIA Y TIRO's Leon Pello played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carmelo Rey in the 43rd minute of play. 45 minutes into the match, GIMNASIA Y TIRO's goal looked a bit too open when Saverio Llorienzo came free, but Leon Pello reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Saverio Llorienzo was the one to do the kick off. Leon Pello was out of position in the 51 minute of play, and Saverio Llorienzo capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Saverio Llorienzo really showed his touch with that goal: 0-2. The GIMNASIA Y TIRO fans' excitement grew in the 70th match minute when GIMNASIA Y TIRO's Adolfo Jon looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Adolfo Jon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Eliseo Gorbea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. GIMNASIA Y TIRO's Adolfo Jon got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in GIMNASIA Y TIRO's zone, Amancio Errapel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leon Pello came out of the goal and Amancio Errapel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Adolfo Dabi got free with Leon Pello in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With 88 minutes on the clock, Cristian Guifre commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. 88 minutes into the game, one of GIMNASIA Y TIRO:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 90th minute there was a penalty for Velez Sarsfield. Saul Gartzen stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Leon Pello. 1-3. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Velez Sarsfield walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
