With a couple of smart ball manuevers Miguel Bembe in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Edgardo Napier saved Velez Sarsfield from getting behind. After 23 played minutes Miguel Bembe rounded Velez Sarsfield's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-0. The supporters of River Plate booed when Velez Sarsfield was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Isaias Florinio didn't get a good kick on the ball. Edgardo Napier didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Honorio Omero went, in the 28th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. Velez Sarsfield's defense didn't have a chance, in the 33rd minute, when Ramon Estefan scored to the left of an out of position Edgardo Napier, making the score, 3-0. Velez Sarsfield's Edgardo Napier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Miguel Bembe in the 46th minute of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomas Mercurio was the one to do the kick off. Velez Sarsfield's Edgardo Napier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ricardo Constancio in the 52nd minute of play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The River Plate fans cheered their team off the field, for while Velez Sarsfield had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
