The audience thought a goal was coming when Fabricio Firmo got free with Gabriel Ekhi in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 17th minute Ruben Chaime shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gabriel Ekhi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Enzo Edorta took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Gorosti, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Gorosti in the 20th minute of play forced Resistencia FC's goalkeeper Enzo Edorta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Esteban Gasteiz took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 22nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Enzo Edorta. Resistencia FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 25th minute, Fabricio Firmo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Fabricio Firmo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Gabriel Ekhi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Ruben Chaime had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 33 minutes, Ruben Chaime managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Resistencia FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ruben Chaime was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 35th minute of the match Esteban Gasteiz shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Enzo Edorta showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 37 minutes into the match, Resistencia FC's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Gorosti came free, but Enzo Edorta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Enzo Edorta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arnaldo Martxelin in the 44th minute of play. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ruben Chaime stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE's Santo Luzaide seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Santo Luzaide the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Santo Luzaide had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 52 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE! Prudencio Nuñez shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Urbes Ceja sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Carlos Gorosti's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 61stth minute, Enzo Edorta skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 62 minutes into the match, Resistencia FC's goalkeeper Enzo Edorta had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Arnaldo Martxelin. If Carlos Gorosti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 63 played minutes CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE got a freekick which was hit by Tomás Frutos. When Isaac Shantala was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 69 minutes had been played. In the 70th minute, Isaac Shantala hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Carlos Gorosti in the 74th play minute got the chance to kick a hard shot on goal from short distance neither the defense or Enzo Edorta kept up with the ball and suddenly the score was 0-1 when the ball slipped into goal inside the left pole. After a defensive mix-up in Resistencia FC's zone, Arnaldo Martxelin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Enzo Edorta came out of the goal and Arnaldo Martxelin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 88th minute, Romulo Gonzalez hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabricio Firmo in the 91st minute of play forced CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE's goalkeeper Gabriel Ekhi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Fabricio Firmo came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Resistencia FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fabricio Firmo couldn't finish the play. The supporters of CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE booed when Resistencia FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ruben Chaime didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched CLUB ATLETICO RIVER PLATE eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
