Yatay AFC's Sixto Leoncio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joel Montrel in the 12th minute of play. Ernesto Fidensio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gerardo Bernebe took the ball and in the 20 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Sixto Leoncio. Sixto Leoncio dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Aristides Guter's late challenge caught a Club Atlético River Plate's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Aristides Guter helped the player get up and apologised. In the 28th minute, Joel Montrel left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Club Atlético River Plate fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Gerardo Bernebe recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Ernesto Fidensio kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Paulo Gergori. That made the score 1-2 in the 35 minute of play. Sixto Leoncio came out of the goal in the 40th minute to try and stop a shot by Club Atlético River Plate's Joel Montrel. But to his dismay, Joel Montrel quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. Joel Montrel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. The Club Atlético River Plate fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-4. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 54th minute, Ignacio Chepe hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gerardo Bernebe got in the 55th a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Sixto Leoncio handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. The supporters of Yatay AFC booed when Club Atlético River Plate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Silverio Cayo didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Yatay AFC getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Atilano Celino hit a great ball. Sixto Leoncio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gerardo Bernebe in the 68th minute of play. Gerardo Bernebe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sixto Leoncio having to interfere. When Gerardo Bernebe came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the Club Atlético River Plate fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gerardo Bernebe couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ernesto Fidensio in the 77th minute of play forced Club Atlético River Plate's goalkeeper Paulo Gergori to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hector Lidon kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. 84 minutes into the match, Yatay AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Montrel came free, but Sixto Leoncio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sixto Leoncio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mauro Romano in the 85th minute of play. Joel Montrel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sixto Leoncio having to interfere. Joel Montrel struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Sixto Leoncio didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Club Atlético River Plate. The Yatay AFC supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Club Atlético River Plate's performance. The match ended with a win for Club Atlético River Plate.
