Arnoldo Efren's late challenge caught a Palermo FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Arnoldo Efren helped the player get up and apologised. 45 minutes into the game, Club Atletico River Plate's Arnoldo Efren nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Junior Rival made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. Palermo FC's Junior Rival played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arnoldo Efren in the 48th minute of play. If Jose Napier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Esteve Markel fell near the penalty area in the 77th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club Atletico River Plate's protests and gave Esteve Markel a yellow card for diving instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in Club Atletico River Plate fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 76th minute. Penalty!
