After some fancy dribbling in the 21st minute, Gaspar Che managed to get in a good position for a shot. C.A. River Plate's supporters rose to their feet, but Gaspar Che was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Clodoveo Enetz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 23rd match minute, Borussia Dortmund was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arnulfo Umbruso to maneuver through the defense. Generoso Faron made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Youri Van Houdtvin in the 43rd minute of play. Gaspar Che received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Clodoveo Enetz came out and tried to block the shot, but Gaspar Che slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 45th minute. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Youri Van Houdtvin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Youri Van Houdtvin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Generoso Faron didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Youri Van Houdtvin went, in the 56th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. 60 minutes into the game, Esteve Matei was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. C.A. River Plate's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Borussia Dortmund the free kick. After a rather tough play, C.A. River Plate's Esteve Matei got a free kick in the 60th minute. 61 minutes into the game, Youri Van Houdtvin cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. Generoso Faron was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. C.A. River Plate's Generoso Faron proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to save C.A. River Plate from getting a goal against them. In the 68th minute, Youri Van Houdtvin reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Generoso Faron. The goal made the score 1-4. Generoso Faron made an important save on a dangerous shot by Iker Mazuste in the 82nd minute. Youri Van Houdtvin's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 83rdth minute, Generoso Faron skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Gaspar Che sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Borussia Dortmund had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
