The audience was convinced that Willie Whitley's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vicente de Sena was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. Roque Che fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vicente de Sena having to interfere. After 19 minutes of play, River Plate's Willie Whitley made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Vicente de Sena was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of C.A Villa Congreso booed when River Plate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Willie Whitley didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marco Rios took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Primitivo Aznar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Marco Rios made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hipolito Estebe in the 62nd minute of play. In the 65th minute of the match River Plate got a corner. C.A Villa Congreso's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Roque Che ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Roque Che got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Vicente de Sena quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Vicente de Sena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Willie Whitley in the 74th minute of play. If Carolo Matteo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carolo Matteo struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Vicente de Sena didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for River Plate. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carolo Matteo couldn't finish the play.
