The audience thought a goal was coming when Mauricio Colon got free with Anselmo Fanuco in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Anselmo Fanuco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mauricio Colon, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. Wilfredo Berdaitz struck a weak shot in the 11th minute. Necdet Baykutay didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vela. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Freddy Jobo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club Atletico River Plate's supporters rose to their feet, but Freddy Jobo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Anselmo Fanuco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 17 minutes into the match, Vela's goal looked a bit too open when Mauricio Colon came free, but Anselmo Fanuco reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A very good chance. Juan Salvatore charged in rather forcefully in the 25th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Juan Salvatore the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Vela booed when Club Atletico River Plate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juan Salvatore didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee ignored Vela's protests and gave Wilfredo Berdaitz a yellow card for diving instead. After 48 played minutes Vela got a freekick which was hit by Wilfredo Berdaitz. Anselmo Fanuco acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 49th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Jeronimo Nayely. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

After a defensive mix-up in Club Atletico River Plate's zone, Wilfredo Berdaitz stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Necdet Baykutay came out of the goal and Wilfredo Berdaitz tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mauricio Colon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Anselmo Fanuco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rogelio Gorka fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Anselmo Fanuco having to interfere. When Arnoldo Cambranes fell near the penalty area in the 69th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Vela's Anselmo Fanuco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Constantino Dolfo in the 74th minute of play. 79 minutes into the game, Juan Salvatore cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Anselmo Fanuco was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. When the match clock showed 82 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Mauricio Colon sped through Vela's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Anselmo Fanuco. In the 88th match minute, Club Atletico River Plate was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan Salvatore to maneuver through the defense. Mauricio Colon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Anselmo Fanuco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 94th minute the ball was on its way in behind Vela's goalkeeper Anselmo Fanuco, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Club Atletico River Plate had played much better football throughout.
