But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carmelo Gaueko couldn't finish the play. Gavino Cebo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ciriaco Peli having to interfere. Aibar's Erubiel Izel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Agustin Naldo in the 31st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jonatan Firmin in the 32nd minute of play forced Aibar's goalkeeper Erubiel Izel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ciriaco Peli made an important save on a dangerous shot by Carmelo Gaueko in the 35th minute. Carmelo Gaueko struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Ciriaco Peli didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Aibar. Carmelo Gaueko could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Ciriaco Peli made a huge save. Jonatan Firmin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 46 minutes into the game, Roman Gentza cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Erubiel Izel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.

After a defensive mix-up in Fabiano's zone, Carmelo Gaueko stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ciriaco Peli came out of the goal and Carmelo Gaueko tried to chip the ball over his head. The tension between the Aibar and the Fabiano players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Fabiano booed when Aibar was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 97 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonel Rivas didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 100th minute, Roman Gentza got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Aibar manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Fabiano to win.
