The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ismael Abella's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 3rdth minute, Albano Ayala skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 5 minutes had been played when some careless play by Gowlan FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Omar Vermudo was slow to take the kick. During this time Academics's players had a chance to rest. Ismael Abella sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Aurelio Urtun received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Albano Ayala tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 18 minutes into the game, Academics's Ismael Abella nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Albano Ayala made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Albano Ayala showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Genaro Astigar in the 23rd minute of the match. After 24 minutes of play, Academics's Ismael Abella made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Albano Ayala was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpected shot in the 28th minute by Ismael Abella got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Ismael Abella received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Albano Ayala came out and tried to block the shot, but Ismael Abella slotted it home off the left post making it 4-0 in the 33rd minute. In the 37th match minute, Gowlan FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Filiberto Elorri to maneuver through the defense. Generoso Ondino struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Christian Colon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gowlan FC. In the 42nd minute, Ismael Abella ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Albano Ayala was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-0. Ismael Abella fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Albano Ayala having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 5-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Generoso Ondino made the kick off in the second half. Gowlan FC's Albano Ayala played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ismael Abella in the 54th minute of play. In the 57th minute the ball was on its way in behind Gowlan FC's goalkeeper Albano Ayala, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 58th minute of the match Academics got a corner. Gowlan FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Omar Vermudo ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Academics's corner Omar Vermudo fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Albano Ayala quite easily take care of the ball. Genaro Astigar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Gowlan FC's zone, Ezequiel Chabier stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Albano Ayala came out of the goal and Ezequiel Chabier tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Ismael Abella came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Academics fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ismael Abella couldn't finish the play. 75 minutes into the match, Gowlan FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ismael Abella came free, but Albano Ayala reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Genaro Astigar managed to get in a good position for a shot. Academics's supporters rose to their feet, but Genaro Astigar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Albano Ayala breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 79 minutes, Genaro Astigar managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Academics's supporters crossed their fingers, but Genaro Astigar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gowlan FC's Generoso Ondino got a good chance for a goal in the 82nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Academics's Christian Colon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Generoso Ondino in the 85th minute of play. Albano Ayala made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Genaro Astigar in the 88th minute of play.
