If Gaston Rainerio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 7th minute, Eriberto Onbera hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Arnoldo Gustau stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gaston Rainerio's shot from short distance in the 9th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Brete FC's zone, Prospero Sasoin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leandro Loi came out of the goal and Prospero Sasoin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Leandro Loi made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Godofredo Dominix sent off a good shot on target. When Prospero Sasoin fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Newells Old Boys's protests and gave Prospero Sasoin a yellow card for diving instead. Prospero Sasoin kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. Prospero Sasoin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Leandro Loi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lino Figueroa took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 29th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Leandro Loi. Brete FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 33rd minute Gaston Rainerio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnoldo Gustau saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 34 minutes, Amado Jaizki managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Brete FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Amado Jaizki was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gaston Rainerio recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 35th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Godofredo Dominix had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eriberto Fidencio kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Prospero Sasoin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The crowd rose to their feet as Brete FC's Gaston Rainerio slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Arnoldo Gustau. That made the score 1-1 after 51 minutes of play. After 54 played minutes Brete FC got a freekick which was hit by Paulo Mon. Prospero Sasoin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Leandro Loi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 62nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Arnoldo Gustau, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gaston Rainerio in the 64th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Arnoldo Gustau to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Leandro Loi stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Prospero Sasoin's shot from short distance in the 71st minute. After a rather tough play, Brete FC's Feliciano Gizon got a free kick in the 85th minute. After 88 minutes Brete FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Remigio Peruanton who took care of the corner kick. Remigio Peruanton made a great header on Newells Old Boys's corner, it was just that Brete FC's Leandro Loi managed to reach the ball for a save. The supporters of Newells Old Boys booed when Brete FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ladislao Gaizkine didn't get a good kick on the ball. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
