An unexpectedly hard shot by Fausto Kepa in the 15th minute of play forced River Plate's goalkeeper Elpidio Perutxo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Elpidio Perutxo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eulalio Endura, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. 44 minutes into the match, River Plate's goal looked a bit too open when Placido Gregory came free, but Elpidio Perutxo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the match clock showed 56 minutes, the score became 6-0 when Eulalio Endura sped through River Plate's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Elpidio Perutxo. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Placido Gregory managed to get in a good position for a shot.
