Fabricio Juvenal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mario Garin having to interfere. 22 minutes into the match, River Plate's goal looked a bit too open when Leonides Panpili came free, but Mario Garin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mario Garin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fabricio Juvenal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 28th minute of the match Gogo Beti shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Mario Garin showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 33 minutes into the match, Fabricio Juvenal had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Mario Garin. River Plate's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fabricio Juvenal was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Mario Garin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ramiro Godoy in the 40th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Saverio Perfecto during the 43rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Saverio Perfecto kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. After the first half Argentino de Merlo were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Leonides Panpili got free with Mario Garin in the 97th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
