Camilo Thomas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gachitos fc. 15 minutes into the match, Newells's Bonifacio Geofredo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Mohammed Ahmed Ben Ben Khalidi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 18th minute, Baldomero Muno hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Filiberto Nicholas in the 21st minute of play forced Gachitos fc's goalkeeper Mohammed Ahmed Ben Ben Khalidi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Basilio Cutberto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Camilo Thomas made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Honorato Papo sent off a good shot on target. Honorato Papo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Honorato Papo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 34th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Honorato Papo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 36thth minute tested the skills of Camilo Thomas when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Mohammed Ahmed Ben Ben Khalidi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bonifacio Geofredo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With his leg Camilo Thomas managed to avoid a goal in the 39thth minute, when Gachitos fc's Honorato Papo fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Basilio Tiso's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mohammed Ahmed Ben Ben Khalidi read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Basilio Cutberto made a kick off. Mohammed Ahmed Ben Ben Khalidi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Miguel Medero in the 51st minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Gachitos fc's Aurelio Rio got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Justo Abeitia took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 58th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Mohammed Ahmed Ben Ben Khalidi. Gachitos fc's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Mohammed Ahmed Ben Ben Khalidi made a fantastic save in the 68th minute, when Bonifacio Geofredo sent off a good shot on target. After a defensive mix-up in Newells's zone, Honorato Papo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Camilo Thomas came out of the goal and Honorato Papo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Basilio Cutberto in the 70th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Camilo Thomas prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Gachitos fc's Mohammed Ahmed Ben Ben Khalidi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Basilio Tiso in the 71st minute of play. Honorato Papo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 76th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Camilo Thomas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Honorato Papo, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. If Basilio Tiso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Basilio Tiso received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Mohammed Ahmed Ben Ben Khalidi came out and tried to block the shot, but Basilio Tiso slotted it home off the left post making it 0-1 in the 84th minute. If Bonifacio Geofredo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Newells's Basilio Tiso got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bonifacio Geofredo got free with Mohammed Ahmed Ben Ben Khalidi in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Baldomero Muno fell near the penalty area in the 93rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gachitos fc's protests and gave Baldomero Muno a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Gachitos fc getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Baldomero Muno hit a great ball. Newells's Filiberto Nicholas got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The Newells supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Newells would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
