In the 13th minute, Leopoldo Bastia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Ariel Cefero fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Newells's protests and gave Ariel Cefero a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Newells's Ariel Cefero got a free kick in the 18th minute. Florentino Balesio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eugenio Pasqual in the 26th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eugenio Pasqual in the 28th minute of play forced Newells's goalkeeper Florentino Balesio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leonardo Sugoi in the 33rd minute of play forced Bife a caballo F.C's goalkeeper Arnulfo Matei to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Leonardo Sugoi to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Bife a caballo F.C's goalkeeper Arnulfo Matei, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Newells's Florentino Balesio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ignacio Erramu in the 60th minute of play. When Leonardo Sugoi came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Newells fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leonardo Sugoi couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Amador Lluciano got free with Arnulfo Matei in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Leonardo Sugoi struck a weak shot in the 66th minute. Arnulfo Matei didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newells. Leonardo Sugoi recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Florentino Balesio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eugenio Pasqual in the 73rd minute of play. If Ignacio Erramu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arnulfo Matei made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Inocencio Lander in the 80th minute of play. After 83 played minutes Newells got a freekick which was hit by Carlos Ibar. In the 85th match minute, Newells was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ernesto Mingo to maneuver through the defense. Leonardo Sugoi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Florentino Balesio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ignacio Erramu in the 96th minute of play.
