Santos Gizon took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 14th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Florentino Balesio. Newells's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 16 minutes into the match, Newells's goal looked a bit too open when Domingos Henrico came free, but Florentino Balesio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Florentino Balesio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Domingos Henrico, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. 22 minutes into the game, Sergio Rubio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Newells's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Chachapoyas AFC the free kick. Inocencio Lander received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Victorino Gasteiz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Leonardo Sugoi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 41 minutes into the match, Chachapoyas AFC's goalkeeper Victorino Gasteiz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Leonardo Sugoi. In the 42nd minute, Bartolo Gaxan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Leonardo Sugoi who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 43rdth minute tested the skills of Victorino Gasteiz when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Chachapoyas AFC's zone, Carlos Ibar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Victorino Gasteiz came out of the goal and Carlos Ibar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luisito Vito stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Carlos Ibar came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Newells fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Ibar couldn't finish the play. The crowd rose to their feet as Chachapoyas AFC's Bartolo Gaxan slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Florentino Balesio. That made the score 0-1 after 53 minutes of play. After a defensive mix-up in Chachapoyas AFC's zone, Leonardo Sugoi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Victorino Gasteiz came out of the goal and Leonardo Sugoi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Carlos Ibar came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Newells fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Ibar couldn't finish the play. If Inocencio Lander had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Victorino Gasteiz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leonardo Sugoi in the 93rd minute of the match. The Newells manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Chachapoyas AFC to win.
