After 15 minutes, Santo Chorache made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. San Lorenzo's Lucas Loco tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicasio Maria in the 19th minute of play forced San Lorenzo's goalkeeper Lucas Loco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Ernesto Oxarra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lucas Loco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicasio Maria in the 40th minute of play. When Paulo Barros came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the San Lorenzo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Paulo Barros couldn't finish the play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The crowd rose to their feet as San Lorenzo's Paulo Barros slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ezequiel Ekain. That made the score 1-2 after 54 minutes of play. 58 minutes into the game, San Lorenzo's Ernesto Oxarra nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ezequiel Ekain made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. After a defensive mix-up in Independiente rey d copas's zone, Ernesto Oxarra stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ezequiel Ekain came out of the goal and Ernesto Oxarra tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 68th minute, Independiente rey d copas's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Ernesto Oxarra fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. San Lorenzo's Lucas Loco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Santo Chorache in the 71st minute of play. Nicasio Maria's late challenge caught a San Lorenzo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nicasio Maria helped the player get up and apologised. In the 72nd minute, Nicasio Maria hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Ernesto Oxarra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Paulo Barros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 81st match minute, Independiente rey d copas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gonzalo Oso to maneuver through the defense. Eloy Hanni blasted a shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ezequiel Ekain having to make a save. Independiente rey d copas's Santo Chorache got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 87 minutes, Feliciano Galeno mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the San Lorenzo and the Independiente rey d copas players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Independiente rey d copas booed when San Lorenzo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Feliciano Galeno didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 91st minute Paulo Barros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ezequiel Ekain saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ezequiel Ekain made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ernesto Oxarra in the 92nd minute. With a little luck, Independiente rey d copas's Ezequiel Ekain got control of the ball when Ernesto Oxarra tried to sneak it across the goal line. When the match was over San Lorenzo could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Independiente rey d copas throughout the match.
